On May 1, 2025 local time, the U.S. House of Representatives passed House Joint Resolution 88 (HJRes 88) by a vote of 246 to 164. The resolution aims to revoke the emissions standards exemption granted to California by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) during the Biden administration, blocking the state's plan to ban the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035. Thirty-five Democrats joined 211 Republicans in supporting the measure, marking a major setback for California's 2035 ban on pure gasoline vehicle sales. The vote also simultaneously passed two additional resolutions to revoke California's exemptions for its zero-emission truck sales program and engine nitrogen oxide emission standards. View Details >
